Fig and Pineapple Syrup

Fig and Pineapple Syrup is a sweet and aromatic syrup that combines figs, pineapples, star anise, ginger, sage and finishes with orange juice to create a multiple level flavor palette to support moistening dryness, aiding in digestion and immune system support during the autumn and winter months.


Figs contain potassium, fiber, magnesium, copper, iron, Vitamins A, B6, E and K, riboflavin and thia


mine. These nutrients help to support regulating blood sugar, reducing constipation, cardiovascular and immune health. In Chinese Medicine Theory, they enter the stomach, lungs and large intestine meridians and help to clear heat, moisten dryness, tonify the stomach and large intestine, remove toxicity and reduce swelling.


Pineapples contain vitamin C which also helps with growth and repair of cells. In Chinese Medicine Theory, pineapples are sweet and sour in flavor, have a neutral temperature and enter the spleen, stomach and urinary bladder meridians. Pineapples also are very helpful for moistening dryness and quenching thirst, clearing heat and dampness, regulating water passageways and dispersing wind.



Oranges also contain high amounts of vitamin C and are helpful for clearing phlegm from the chest and throat. In Chinese Medicine Theory, oranges have a sweet and sour flavor that is cooling in nature. They enter the lung, liver, spleen and stomach meridians and help to support stomach yin, improve the circulation of qi and promote digestion.


The aromatic herbs used (ginger, star anise and sage) are pungent, warming and help with dispersing wind and clearing dampness.


Ingredients:

  • Pineapple (1 whole small pineapple)

  • Figs - 12

  • Ginger - 6 slices

  • Sage - 1 small bundle


Star Anise - 1

  • Orange - half 

  • Brown Sugar - 1/2 cup


Cooking Instructions:

  • Place pineapple, figs, ginger and star anise into a pot and add in 1.5 cups of water, bring to a boil and let simmer for 2 hours (keep pot covered). 

  • Add in sage 15 minutes before finishing

  • Strain decoction from ingredients and add-in orange juice.

  • Dosage: add 1-2 tablespoons to warm water
