🥤 Suan Mei Tang 酸梅汤 (Sour Plum Tea)
🥤 Sour Plum Tea is a Drink that is commonly consumed in China to reduce the effects of summer heat. This sour and slightly sweet drink helps to cool the body down and alleviate thirst.
🥤 This is a premade herbal package that you’ll prepare to make with 10 cups (2.5 L) of water.
🥤 Recipe that we’re using to make the premade herbal package comes from the Woks of Life as I love the ratios they give.
🥤 Ingredients:
乌梅 - Sour Plum (50 g)
山楂 - Hawthorn Berries (30 g)
陈皮 - Dried Orange Peel (3 g)
甘草 - Licorice Root (3 g)
洛神花 - Dried Hibiscus Flower (10 g)
木樨/桂花 - Dried Osmanthus Flowers (3 g)
冰糖 - Rock Sugar (100 g or to taste) (customer will add-in)
Cooking Instructions:
🔹Rinse all dried ingredients and place in a large pot with 10 cups of water (2.5 L) (can place herbs in a cheesecloth or a muselin cloth) to soak for 1 hour.
🔹After 1 hour, bring water to a boil and let simmer for 45 minutes.
🔹Once decoction has simmered for 45 minutes, add rock sugar until it dissolves in the liquid.
🔹Once cooled, strain liquid from herbs and serve over ice (option: place in the fridge for a couple of hours and have cooled without ice).

🔹Sour Plum - generates fluids and relieves thirst
🔹Hawthorn Berries - reduces and guides out food stagnation and transforms accumulations
🔹Dried Orange Peel - relieves stagnation in the diaphragm and digestive tract, dries dampness and transforms phlegm
🔹Licorice Root - clears heat and relieve fire toxicity
🔹Dried Hibiscus Flower - clears toxins, cools summer heat, generates fluids and relieves thirst and nourishes spleen qi
🔹Dried Osmanthus Flower - relieves the body from fatigue, improves over energy, dissipates stasis
